Kwania District – Lango leaders have called for the creation of two new districts in the subregion in a meeting held today as part of President Yoweri Museveni’s Parish Development Model (PDM) tour in Aduku Town Council to discuss regional development. The leaders, handed over a memorandum to President Museveni outlining several critical issues, including creation of two more administrative units in the subregion.
The memorandum, presented by Hon. Judith Alyek, the Woman MP for Kole and chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, proposed the establishment of new districts to enhance local governance and service delivery. The two new districts proposed are:
- Creation of Aber District from the current Oyam District, which would involve splitting Oyam District.
- Formation of Erute District from Lira District
If these proposals are approved, they would increase the total number of districts in Lango Sub-region to 12, including the city of Lira.
Hon Judith Alyek, also in her address to the President, underscored the urgent necessity for an International Airport in Anai, Lira City. Additionally, Hon Alyek called for presidential intervention to speed up the long-delayed compensation for Lango war claimants, highlighting the ongoing struggles of those affected. She also advocated for the establishment of an industrial park in the region.
