President Yoweri Museveni is set to commence a high-profile tour in the Lango sub-region starting Tuesday, January 28, 2025, focusing on wealth creation and the evaluation of the Parish Development Model (PDM). This comes after similar tours in various parts of Uganda including Acholi, West Nile, Masaka, Bukedi, Teso, Karamoja, and Sebei, where he has been assessing the impact of government initiatives on local economies and communities.
In anticipation of the President’s arrival, a series of preparatory meetings have been underway. Leaders from across the Lango sub-region gathered at Lira City Council Hall to coordinate logistics and ensure a smooth execution of the tour’s agenda. The Government Chief Whip, Hamson Obua, has been actively involved in these preparations, highlighting the tour’s schedule:
- Tuesday, January 28: The President will visit model farms in Amolatar, Kole, and Lira Districts to interact with local farmers benefiting from government programs.
- Wednesday, January 29: Museveni is scheduled to commission the Lira Industrial Hub at Lira University, showcasing government investment in local industry.
- Thursday, January 30: The day will start with the commissioning of the Presidential Hub in Lira City, followed by a public rally at Alanyi Primary School Playground in Alebtong District.
The tour in Lango is part of President Museveni’s broader initiative to promote economic transformation through wealth creation. The Parish Development Model, a key government strategy, aims to transition Ugandans from subsistence to a money economy, and its performance in Lango will be closely scrutinized during this visit.
Community Expectations
Residents and local leaders in Lango are hopeful that this tour will bring about tangible benefits, similar to what has been observed in other regions. There is particular interest in how the PDM has influenced local agriculture and small businesses, with expectations for further government support to scale these initiatives.
