CAF has reportedly disqualified Congo from competiting at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) slated for August in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Whereas CAF is yet to issue a statement to this effect, reports indicate Congo has been thrown out for use of an ineligible player in the qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea.
The player in question is Mankou Nguembete Japhet Eloi who is believed to have been on the books of Leones Vegetarianos, a club in Equatorial Guinea.
Additionally, Congo reportedly didn’t present valid national licenses which is an essential requirement.
Therefore, Equatorial Guinea who had been eliminated by Congo bounce back and will now be in Group D that has defending Champions Senegal, Sudan and Nigeria.
The Congolese Football Association has also been fined $10,000 to paid to CAF within 60 days.
